Jimmy practices

After Andy Roddick got by an ailing Tomas Berdych, his coach Jimmy Connors drew a crowd practicing on Court 5. This picture was taken by my camera phone, and shows clearly why I am a staff writer, not a staff photographer for the Journal News.

Anyway, here’s what caught my eye—Connors is wearing a sweater vest! Dude, it is 85 degrees here and the sun is beating down on a hot court, but he’s in wool and long navy blue pants. That’s a true champ.

And it’s just one of the many fun things happening away from the show courts.

To show his true machismo, he continues to hit with the infamous Prince Mono!!!!

an absolutely arcane racquet which is 15 years out of production.

You would think with his new hip, someone would issue him a racquet made in this century. I’m not suggesting a titanium frame(that would match his ball & socket) just something…
