News and notes from the U.S. Open

Be the CBS producer for a day

September
2

Alright, here’s your chance to play the CBS producer. Your objective: change the world. Just kidding — you want to maximize ratings.

There are three men’s matches that people want to see: Berdych-Roddick, Haas-Blake and Federer-Lopez. Which two do you put on the telecast?

Too easy? Here’s another one. There are four women’s matches: Azarenka-Kuznetsova, Chakvetadze-Paszek, Szavay-Vakulenko and Peer-Radwanska. One has to be on TV. You check the rules. Yep, one has to go on. What do you do?

And finally, how do you order the matches?

Here’s what CBS is doing tomorrow. Obviously, the Americans go on Labor Day (and any other day, really). It helps that they’re both playing top 10 players, while Federer’s opponent is unseeded (AGAIN, like the guy needs any break, he hasn’t faced a seeded player yet). And Kuznetsova is a former champion, so she gets the nod there.

In other words, here’s your schedule:
Azarenka-Kuznetsova, 11 a.m.
Roddick-Berdych, not before 12:30 p.m.
Haas-Blake to follow

Night session, starts at 7 (yeah right)
Chakvetadze-Paszek
Federer-Lopez

Armstrong day session
Szavay-Vakulenko
Peer-Radwanska
TBA Doubles match
Davydenko-Lee
