Anyone for tennis?

News and notes from the U.S. Open

A run in the park

September
1

Before the matches started today I decided to get out of the tennis center altogether and go for a run. Usually I do between two miles and a 5K, but I don’t use a pedometer or anything like that, and I prefer to run on trails so I’m not really sure of my average milage exactly.

So why not check out Corona Park? I was surprised by how empty it was on a Saturday morning. There were some soccer games, but on a perfect day like today I would expect frisbees and picnics, even the basketball courts were empty.

The other thing about the park was the dust. Between the fine dirt, wind and the traffic, I felt at the end like I’d smoked a pack of buses. I wonder if the tennis players feel it in their lungs after a long match as well.
