Anyone for tennis?

News and notes from the U.S. Open

Don’t think about it

August
30

As I was walking on the walkway from the tennis center to the No. 7 subway train tonight, I saw a middle-aged couple busted for scalping by a cop in street clothes.

The couple, who clearly were not lifetime criminals, begged and pleaded with the officer, offered to refund the money, etc., to no avail (apprently, purchasing scalped tickets is not a crime, so the buyers just stood there motionless the whole time).

So don’t try scalping your US Open tickets outside the gates. It’s illegal to sell the tickets at any price, even below face value, and undercover officers are enforcing this.

I find that laughable. I’m no lawbreaker, but how many people bought their U.S. Open tickets online at sites which charge a price higher than the face value? If it happens via email these days, it’s fine. If you try to do it in person, it’s illegal. There is a real double standard in the “secondary ticket market.”

Priorities, Westchester has two or three stabbings a day.

I say Hurah for the NYPD!!! Two more thugs on the road to a life of crime put away(or at least put away from the tennis center).

The tickets are already too much..How many of us law abiding honest sports fans have been milked by the man(the face value of a good seat at the open is what $200?) I don’t want to have to spend $400..

Thank you. And if any of you other law breaker types want to consider taking me for a ride, I’m considering going out to the open, JUST to turn you in to the coppers.
